Step 1 of 10 0% Email HeaderUnderstanding what is at the root of your overwhelm will help you make the right changes - and reclaim your time.Your individual report is compiled in the PDF attached.Email FooterCongratulations on taking this step towards regaining control of your time and energy!KariePrioritizationHave you clearly defined your business and personal priorities?Everything changes so fast that defining priorities and creating a plan is a waste of time. The immediate priority is survival, so I just keep moving forward.I know what my priorities are - or what I want them to be - but there is so much going on in my business that I'll get back to them once I get things under control.I have a plan in place with clearly defined priorities and goals. It is overwhelming because I can't always see how to get everything done. My strategic plan has been narrowed down to a small number of priorities that are most critical. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? Alignment Do you spend your time doing work that aligns with your priorities?I put all of my time and energy into running the business. There isn't anything left to focus on the priorities I've set for myself and my business. When the day-to-day tasks are complete, I occasionally find time and energy to work on items of strategic importance to me and my business. The way I spend my time aligns reasonably well with my stated priorities, but I still lose time to things that aren't consistent with my priorities. They way that I spend my time shows my true priorities - I spend most of my time doing the things most important to me and my business. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? DelegationDo you lead others or do most of the driving of your business?I've tried to delegate but find it is often faster and easier to take on the key tasks myself, even though it is overwhelming to be involved in so many aspects of the business.I delegate less critical responsibilities, but don't trust others to do the important things. This holds me - and the business - back from our full potential.I delegate in some areas to some key people, but have to pay close attention to make sure things stay on track. They require more supervision than I would like.My business is not reliant on me - the team runs it, sometimes better than I do. They occasionally look to me for validation of strategy, or for a pat on the back of they do well. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? TalentDo you have the right people on your bus?It is extremely difficult to find good people who will take responsibility and work hard. It's an ongoing struggle to fill positions and manage employee performance.I've had some successes, but on the whole, the team isn't where it needs to be. We make do because it is hard to find strong talent.Team members consistently deliver what is asked of them and work together well, but could take more ownership and initiative.I have an amazing team that takes ownership and gives it their all - they consistently push to develop their skills and enhance the business. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? Organizational Structure Is your organization well-structured?Around here, we "do what it takes". Roles are not always clear, and I lose a lot of time to non-essential and non-strategic tasks. We have the right positions in some areas of the business, but I do things that are "below my pay grade" in other areas. Most of the time, everything gets done and nobody feels too overwhelmed. I stay involved in some areas where the team is too busy, and occasionally do things that aren't my job.Staff is in place to handle all areas of the business. Roles are clearly defined, and capacity matches workload, leaving me with the time I need to spend on the business' strategic priorities. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? SystemsDo you use processes, systems and technology to improve your effectiveness?I wish I was someone who benefited from technology and processes! I don't have time to create processes, and adopting technology takes more time than it saves. I've adopted technology, systems or processes in some areas, but still waste a lot of time unnecessarily.I've invested in getting some solid systems, processes and technology in place, and see the benefits. There are still a few areas where I would like to improve.I've implemented systems, processes and technology that protect my time and let me focus on what is most important to me and my business. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? HabitsDo your personal habits support you to manage your time and energy?I don't have many routines or habits in place that support me in controlling my time. Some things I do regularly actually make it more difficult to be effective.I have tried to implement good habits and routines, but most haven't been sustainable. I have many beneficial habits and routines in place, but sometimes still fall into behaviours that are counterproductive to being effective and controlling my time.I have optimized my routines and habits to keep me healthy, energized, and as effective as possible. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? BoundariesDo you set effective boundaries around your time and focus?I don't have consistent boundaries. It feels like the way I use my time is decided by everyone but me.I've tried to set boundaries, but it is often easier to just go with the flow than to stand up for myself and my time.I have some boundaries in place, but in other areas I am easily pulled into doing things I don't want to do.I have clearly set boundaries that are upheld by those around me. I'm in control of how I spend my time and energy. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? FirefightingDo you get interrupted / pulled away from key priorities to deal with immediate issues?I am constantly interrupted. It feels like my days are spent putting out one fire after another, with no time left to think or work proactively. I have good intentions and plan to work on key priorities, but am invariably pulled away by one emergency or another.I have found ways to protect my time to work on key priorities, but still lose more time than I would like to interruptions and firefighting. I spend the majority of my time thinking and working strategically in a proactive way that moves my business forward. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? With so many demands facing us each day, it feels like everything is high priority!Once you’ve defined what is truly most important to you – in your business and in your life – half the work is done. Decisions become easier, and with practice you’ll start to automatically direct your focus consistently towards your priorities. You’ll go from being pulled in many directions at once – and feeling like you are failing in all areas – to working in a streamlined way that really moves the needle.Q2 or Topic 2 Biggest Gap FeedbackALIGNMENTShow me your calendar and I’ll tell you your priorities. Many executives I work with can clearly state their priorities. Their calendars, however, tell a very different story. If your biggest priority is business development, why do you spend more time looking at your financials than meeting with prospects? Is your family really your highest priority if you miss dinner 4 nights per week?Once you can see the gap between your current schedule and your ideal schedule – where efforts align with priorities – you can make the changes required to work in alignment with what is most important to you.Q3 or Topic 3 Biggest Gap FeedbackDELEGATIONYou can’t do it all. And more importantly, you shouldn’t.It looks like you’re struggling to delegate. You’re not alone! As your career or business grows, it’s imperative to hand off more – and more important - tasks. And that can be hard. You might feel that you don’t have enough time to delegate - that it’s faster to do it yourself. That if someone else does it, it won’t be done well enough. Or perhaps you’ve become as successful as you are because you’ve maintained control over many aspects of your business and it’s scary to hand off some of that control. When you delegate more effectively – and hand the right things off to the right people – you’ll clear space in your schedule and your mind to grow your business and your career.Q4 or Topic 4 Biggest Gap FeedbackTALENTHigh performers are up to 8 times more productive than their average counterparts.Managing talent can be tough. It involves playing the long game, and sometimes making difficult decisions. If you’re tolerating sub-standard performance in your organization, or simply don’t have the right people in the places where they will contribute most, you’re limiting the growth of your business – and your own success. When you surround yourself with people who are faster, better, and smarter than you are in their area of expertise, you’ll find the peace of mind that comes from decreasing risks and increasing the potential of your business.Q5 or Topic 5 Biggest Gap FeedbackORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTUREIf you don’t want to do all of the paddling, get the right people in the boat.To maintain control of your time, you need the right people in the right places - to do things that are below your pay grade, or that they can simply do better than you can.The structure of your organization is key to freeing up your time to think and work strategically, and to do those things that require your unique talents. In other words, to work less in your business, and more on your business.Q6 or Topic 6 Biggest Gap FeedbackSYSTEMSStop Reinventing the Wheel! You can do the same task or make the same decision over and over again, never really thinking about it.Or… you can spend a few minutes systematizing or automating that same task or decision, and never have to make it again. If you’re not implementing systems, you’re wasting time and energy. When you automate, you free up energy and brain power for the tasks and decisions that really need your consideration.Q7 or Topic 7 Biggest Gap FeedbackHABITS40% of our daily actions are powered by habits – make yours work for you. It’s easy to fall into habits that don’t optimize your performance. Skimping on sleep, using caffeine/sugar/alcohol/drugs to get you through the day, numbing out in front of a television or computer screen, or letting workouts fall off your to do list – if this sounds familiar, you’re limiting your effectiveness.Beyond optimizing your mental and physical state, adding positive habits to your workday saves you time and gives you the energy you need to perform. Goal setting, start and end of day routines, regular breaks, prioritized scheduling, time-blocking etc. – finding the unique combination that works for you will give you the edge you need. The best part? Once routines become habits, you don’t have to think about them!Q8 or Topic 8 Biggest Gap FeedbackBOUNDARIESBoundaries are bodyguards for your time.If you’re struggling to set and maintain boundaries, it feels like your time is not your own.The idea of saying “no” can be uncomfortable. It takes practice, and some negotiation skills. But once you have firm boundaries in place, you’ll actually be able to say “yes” more often – to the things that are truly important to you. Q9 or Topic 9 Biggest Gap FeedbackFIREFIGHTINGEverything is not a crisis. If you regularly spend part – or all – of your day resolving unexpected issues or dealing with emergencies, you’ve become a firefighter (but without the cool uniform!).This is a common problem faced by leaders, who know what they want to accomplish but who keep getting derailed by the latest crisis. If you spend all your time dealing with “emergencies”, you don’t have the time to focus on your strategic priorities. The good news is that you can reclaim that time. And once you do, you can spend it proactively moving your business and career forward.
