  • Do you understand the Mission of your team and what you are called to accomplish?

  • I have no idea what we're supposed to be doing or why.

  • I have a vague idea about our Mission, but don't ask me to explain it.

  • I understand our Mission as a team but I'm not sure about "next steps."

  • I understand our Mission and am confident we are moving in the right direction.

  • Are you fully committed to your team's Mission?

  • It's difficult to be committed to something I can't define.

  • I would like to be committed but right now I feel as though I am working in a silo.

  • I'm fully committed to our Mission but would like to see some goals and action plans instead of "just talk."

  • As a team, we're fully invested in our Mission and are working together on a future-oriented action plan.

  • Does your team have a shared sense of calling based on faith/ relationship with God?

  • Faith is a private matter and it doesn't affect our working together.

  • We all feel called to ministry, but it's frustrating that we never share our stories of faith.

  • We have shared our stories of faith in the past but I wish we could reflect at greater depth on how they affect our working together as a team.

  • We take the time to discuss our stories of faith and to reflect on how each of us has been called to be a part of this team.

  • Does your team pray together?

  • Praying as a team would be too time-consuming.

  • We pray when there is a special need of some kind but typically don't come together to pray.

  • We do begin and end each meeting with prayer, but team prayer feels rushed and rote and doesn't receive the time it deserves.

  • Prayer is foundational to our work as a team. We pray together on a regular basis, praying for each other, for our stakeholders, for the world, and for our success as a team.

  • Do you believe your team is looking ahead to what the world will need of you in the future?

  • No. We're just focusing on the needs of our present constituents, offering them the services we've always provided.

  • We're thinking too small and need to anticipate changes to our neighborhood, country and the world.

  • We're beginning to think about the ways the world is changing and the challenges this will present, but we've just started this process.

  • We're already designing action plans in response to demographic trends, global warming and migration to see how we might best serve in the future.

  • Can your team see a new and better world emerging?

  • At the moment, we're just getting by, day by day, coping with present problems.

  • I wish we could see ourselves as part of the solution but we get discouraged and don't take the time to imagine a new reality.

  • We are beginning to see new opportunities and possibilities, so this is an exciting time for us to be working together.

  • In response to societal trends, we are already forging the partnerships, strategies and resources we will need to embrace the future

  • Do you feel as though you belong to your team?

  • Not at all. I don't feel my presence makes a difference one way or the other.

  • I like my colleagues but we are not pulling together as a team -- too much talk and not enough action.

  • We're all friends on the team but we act more like individual members of a group than as a team with a common purpose.

  • As a team, we work as a unit and each person's contributions are essential for our success.

  • What can YOU do to become more of a team player?

  • I've no interest in doing anything different -- this is not a popularity club!

  • I find it annoying when my colleagues are disengaged and sometimes allow my frustration to show. I suppose I could try to be more tolerant.

  • It's important to make sure everyone's voice is heard and that everyone feels valued. I make a point of reaching out to all my team mates.

  • We have a shared-leadership model built on transparency, with frequent team-builders and opportunities for meaningful interaction.

  • How effectively do you communicate as a team?

  • There is little to no communication. I tend to find out about decisions from non-team members.

  • It's frustrating when team members fail to share important updates, never respond to emails, or else deliberately withhold information.

  • We have the opportunity to share updates at our meetings but sometimes this is not enough; there have been times when someone has failed to pass on some crucial information.

  • Effective communication is a priority for our team and we make sure that everybody is kept informed regarding anything that affects our collaboration or sense of community.

  • To what extent do you share important information with your stakeholders?

  • We share as little as possible with our stakeholders; we make the decisions and let them know what to expect.

  • If we communicated more with our stakeholders, I think they would be more understanding and less demanding.

  • We have several categories of stakeholders and need to decide which groups should receive certain kinds of updates on a regular basis.

  • We have excellent communication with all our stakeholders, providing updates as appropriate while taking their input into consideration.

  • How well does your team adapt to change?

  • We avoid change at all costs but use the same strategies that have worked in the past.

  • Our reluctance to change makes us less effective in fulfilling our Mission; we are unable to pivot when this is necessary.

  • We're beginning to assess where we need to grow in the future so we can continue to serve our stakeholders.

  • We have adapted as times have changed and make a point of keeping up to date with new trends, strategies and technologies.

  • Can your team let go of the old reality to embrace the new?

  • As a team, we cling to our previous achievements, defining ourselves by all we have accomplished.

  • Because we focus on the successes of the past and the way things were, we fail to see the needs of the present moment.

  • While we're proud of our history as a team, we are beginning to look towards the future, exploring new goals, actions and strategies.

  • As a team, we are constantly growing. We have learned to let go of "yesterday" so as to live in the present moment while embracing tomorrow.

  • Whom do you serve?

  • We serve the loyal members/ subscribers/ constituents who have supported us over the years.

  • All our energy is focused on our present members/ subscribers/ constituents, but, as a result, we never grow.

  • We are grateful for our present members/ subscribers/ constituents, but we now realize we need to extend our reach.

  • Building on the foundation of support we have received over the years, we are reaching out to new members/ subscribers/ constituents to serve their needs and to broaden the scope of our mission.

  • Who are your future stakeholders?

  • We don't look at the future-- our mandate is to continue serving the people we serve right now.

  • There are new populations we could be serving, but we have yet to reach out to them.

  • We've begun extending our reach to new populations but need to consider how our work can affect future generations.

  • We are successful in our outreach to new populations but are also discerning the needs of future generations and of the world of tomorrow,

  • Does your team "think out of the box"?

  • We tend to work out of habit, utilizing proven strategies and policies. What was good enough for yesterday is good enough for today.

  • We "benchmark" to see what everyone else is doing, but don't adapt our skills and services to meet the needs of our present stakeholders.

  • For the most part, we try to respond to the needs of our stakeholders in creative ways, but we are sometimes afraid of taking risks.

  • We value creativity and constantly look for new solutions to old problems, even if this means taking risks.

  • What limits your team's creativity?

  • It's better to take a conservative approach than an innovative approach as this way we avoid failure.

  • Fear of losing the support of our stakeholders makes us overly cautious, and sometimes we cannot look beyond the "red tape."

  • We can see many ways of being more creative, but "red tape" holds us back.

  • We recognize that institutional/ organizational policies and procedures limit the scope of what is possible, but we manage to work around much of the "red tape" to implement creative strategies.

  • To what extent is your team thriving?

  • Thriving? What's that?

  • We have some successes but, on the whole, have little to show for our efforts.

  • The more we see ourselves as members of a team, the more successful we are becoming.

  • We respect and value each other's gifts and contributions to the team effort, enjoy working together and delight in our success as a team.

  • What gets in the way of your team's performance?

  • Conflict, competitiveness, lack of commitment, lack of trust ...

  • We are still pursuing our individual goals and agendas, and have yet to come together as a team.

  • We have a good sense of camaraderie but still focus on our individual successes rather than on the success of the team.

  • We each contribute to the team effort and work together as a highly-effective unit, sharing a common vision, mission and goals.

  • How motivated is your team?

  • Most of us don't want to show up and have lost our passion for what we do.

  • Some of us still have drive, but the team as a whole has lost vision, direction and goals.

  • We have struggled with maintaining confidence and optimism, but are now recognizing the value we are creating.

  • We want to make a difference and therefore are happy to work together and contribute all that we can to the team effort.

  • What motivates your team?

  • We look for external rewards such as recognition, bonuses, promotions.

  • External motivation drives us as a team, but some of us find satisfaction in serving our stakeholders.

  • As a team, we have moved beyond external motivation and now find fulfilment in serving our stakeholders.

  • We are privileged to have the opportunity to serve our stakeholders and to contribute towards making the world a safer, happier place for all its creatures.
