Don't worry, you're not alone. One of the biggest complaints leaders have is, "I am not getting enough from my people. My employees are not engaged and don't give it their all." First, we as leaders must earn the right to lead. That means looking at ourselves and seeing how we can demonstrate more competence and credibility. How we can make more of a personal commitment to employees growth and development within the organization. Ask yourself - do I care about my employees and do I show it? Reach out and call one of them. Then the next and the next. This way your're buidling relationships within your network and potentially solving a pressing issue at the same time. Remember to always ask what the other person may need as well.If you're coming up short in this area, you may need to work on building your network/relationship base by attending events, conferences and other places you can meet and connect with those who can support you and your business. It's important to act in a timely and responsible way to solve problems. Here are some suggestions for improvement: Take one challenge you're currently working on and look at it comprehensively. Have you really defined the problem fully? Do you know the who, what, where, when, why and how details? Is there any historical information to consider? Who needs to be involved in solving this problem? Are you looking beyond the obvious for solutions? Don't get stuck in analysis paralysis. Be ready to make a decision knowing you might not have all the information but weigh the implications and get comfortable with what you decide. Have a back up plan in case you need to change direction. Along with this skill goes the skill of project management. Why? Because most of the activities we grapple with usually involve projects. And projects are fraught with problems.
