I need a change in my career or job role but I'm struggling to identify what it is I want to do or where I want to go. I have been in the same role / organisation for a long time and can't remember the last time I applied for a new role. I feel bored and disengaged with my career/ job role. I don't feel like I'm advancing in my growth or development and continually get overlooked for internal promotions. I'm progressing well with my career / job role and enjoy my work. However, I know I could be doing more to challenge myself rather than take the easy road. I feel confident and excited about my future career/job prospects. I regularly seek feedback from others to ensure my areas for development are aligned with my work and personal goals. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? Complexity How well do you manage complexity? My anxiety levels rise when it comes to solving large and complex issues and tasks. I feel overwhelmed not knowing where to start and I tend to make things a lot more complicated than they need to be and often feel stuck. I like being in control of most things it makes me feel safe. I get frustrated when problems or issues take a long time to solve. It is my job to have the answers. Sometimes I procrastinate for too long on large or complex tasks/issues resulting in a delayed start and a rush to finish. When dealing with complexity I seek out and collaborate with others to ensure diversity through thinking, skills and capabilities as I am aware no one person can have all of the answers. I am working on listening to learn and understand rather than listening to fix or solve the problem. When working through complexity I have developed a new kind of confidence in not needing to be right or have all the answers. The more competent I have become in myself and my capabilities the more likely I am to say – I don’t know the answer. I have developed a habit of listening to learn and encourage disagreement with others so as to explore all possibilities and solutions as this creates the best outcome. Complexity means no one single person can have all the answers. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? Personal BrandHow would you describe yourself? I have a very low level of confidence and always look for direction from others before I take any action. I would describe myself as someone who doesn't like to stand out rather blend into the background so I'm not noticed, seen or heard. I would describe myself as someone who is capable of doing many things well yet I rarely feel engaged or satisfied. I often feel frustrated from doing the same types of activities and would like the opportunity to explore other interests and new skills but I'm not sure where to begin. I have mastered a good awareness of my strengths and skills ie I know the ones which make me feel energised, the ones I'm good at but would rather not do and the ones which I call on during times of uncertainty and complexity. However, I am unsure of the new skills and strengths I would like to build and develop. I am clear on my purpose, what energises me and my top 5 personal values. I had a deep awareness of my unique strengths and use them to create value and opportunity for myself and others. I have knowledge, expertise and interests in specific areas and always look at different ways to share my knowledge with others via different mediums and platforms. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? Productivity Do you get done what you set out to complete most days? I struggle to meet deadlines and I'm always late to meetings and events. I stay late at work most days but still can't seem to get ahead. I start the day with a plan and best intentions of what needs to get done. However I'm easily distracted by emails, other peoples needs and the next meeting. I often get to the end of the day feeling frustrated as I haven't been able to get to the things I needed to get done. I'm good at staying on task during the day and I'm getting better at managing my distractions. I understand how to engage and motivate those around me knowing everyones contribution makes for a better outcome. Planning my day is part of my daily routine. I'm able to priorities tasks and activities as well as set realistic and achievable timeframes. I feel highly engaged and satisfied by my efforts, contribution and what I'm able to achieve my self and in collaboration with others. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? PresenceHow well do you influence and engage with others?I avoid conversations with others and prefer to use email rather than have a face to face discussion. In meetings I am afraid to speak up, I feel my opinion won't be valued or I will be criticised so I stay quiet. I agree with others even when I may have a differing view or opinion to avoid having a challenging or difficult conversation. My intentions are positive yet I am often misunderstood by others, they see me as being critical and negative with my comments.I am described by others as a friendly and approachable person. I enjoy maintaining existing relationships with those I trust or have known for a long time. However I'm less likely to seek and initiate new relationships and networks, this takes a little more effort and courage.I feel energised and inspired by interacting and meeting new people. I'm aware of the impact of how I show up and are seen by others. I consistently use constructive language to communicate and engage others to get the best outcomes. How would you rate yourself today, on a scale of 1-12?Where would you like to be in 12 months time, on a scale of 1-12? ResilienceHow quickly do you adapt to change? I really struggle with or find it difficult to embrace change both at work and in my personal life. I'm not sure why? I prefer the status quo and like the certainty of knowing what is next.I'm often get frustrated with change and tend to focus on what will go wrong rather than the opportunity or rewards it may bring. At work I often don't always agree or feel comfortable with 'change'. This is particularly frustrating when leading others as I find it difficult to stay positive or optimistic about the future changes.I am open to change and like to experience and try new things both at work and at home. I believe to grow and develop you need to do things differently to how they have been done in the past. I embrace change both in the work environment and in my personal life. When leading others through change I enjoy assisting them with the transition and helping them to create a new mindset towards learning something new. Sometimes our careers can take a sudden turn leaving us feeling undervalued or uncertain about the future. Your results suggest this is an area which you may benefit from a new direction or thinking. My blog 'Coach Me To Leave' may spark some new insights and offers some useful tips on how you can start improving your situation in this area start away. You can read it here.Q2 or Topic 2 Biggest Gap FeedbackComplexity We are naturally wired for 'Certainty' it gives us a sense of being in control and comfort from knowing what is to come. However, in todays world complexity and uncertainty are increasing both at work and at home, it has become the new Business As Usual (BAU). How well you resopnd to complexity will have an impact not only on those around you but the effectiveness of the solution and the outcome. Complexity can leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious and out of control and for some a sense of helplesness from not knowing where to start? Whenever I'm confronted by complexity I like this quote from 'Albert Einstein'; 'You don't need to see the whole staircase before you take the first step'. Take the first step no matter how small, this will start to create momentum leading you to the next action, the important thing is to start! Collaborating with others is also helpful when trying to solve complex issues or problems, no one person has all the answers, you will achieve a much more sustainable and effective outcome by engaging and involving others. The next time you are faced with a difficult or challenging issue or problem instead of procrastinating or feeling anxious ask yourself 'Who else can help me solve this problem'? I love the work of neuroscientist Dr Sarah Mckay for making sense of how our brain is wired, she has written a great blog called 'The uncertain brain. A guide to facing the fear of the unkown' you can find it here. Q3 or Topic 3 Biggest Gap FeedbackPersonal BrandKnowing who you are, what you stand for, your unique strengths and contributions, what energises you and your personal values will ensure you are always guided and focused on achieving outcomes to keep you progressing forward with new and exciting opportunities. Your low scores here suggest this could be an area for you to start working on. A good place to start is to identify your top 5 personal values. Why? Because values inform our thinking which impacts our behaviour and connect us to our purpose, they act like an anchor and keep us grounded . Once you have your list consider the following questions; Q1. Which values are showing up and which ones are not showing up for you at work and at home? Q2. Which of your personal values are being compromised? In addition you may also like to try the free online VIA Character Strengths survey you can access it here. Both of these activities will not only start to build a level of self-awareness and understanding of what drives and motivates you it may also give you some insight as to why you may be feeling unsettled or frustrated.Q4 or Topic 4 Biggest Gap FeedbackProductivity Research indicates only 26% of people leave the office at the end of the day having accomplished the tasks they set out to do. Not feeling a sense of achievement at the end of the day because we have been too busy, distracted by our mobile phone or spend time doing things we should have said 'No' to has become a common problem in todays world. You may find this article '4 Ways Busy People Sabotage Themselves' helpful to get some more time back in your day. You can find it here! Q5 or Topic 5 Biggest Gap FeedbackPresenceBeing aware of the impact our thinking and behaviour may have on ourselves and other people contributes to a higher level of satisfaction and effectiveness. Having the confidence to speak up and voice your opinion believing your contribution matters takes courage especially when it goes against the status quo or requires a difficult conversation. Your results indicate this may be an area for you to explore more and find out what is getting in the way of your showing up and speaking up? Helping people identify and remove what is getting in the way is one of the key reasons I coach. Read more about my background and 'Why I Coach' here. Q6 or Topic 6 Biggest Gap FeedbackResilienceOur brain is wired to keep us safe and survive. As humans it is only natural to want to avoid change if we perceive something to be a threat either consciously or non-consciously to protect or keep us safe. Having the ability or the mindset of trying new things, learn from mistakes and keep persisting is critical to your future growth, development and success. Self-awareness is the new 'Change Superpower' you can start to build on this by becoming more aware of what may trigger a 'threat' response for you and others when presented with change. I find the David Rock's SCARF model useful to describe what goes on in our brain when we resist change. You can learn more about the SCARF model by viewing this short video clip - Find it here!Call to Action for EveryoneCall to Action For Column 1I can see you may be struggling in one or more of the areas from the coaching assessment and would love to see how I can help you improve.
